Former Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Benedict Akwuegbu says, he almost missed playing at the FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan 2002.


According to the former AK Graz of Austria goal Scoring machine who played against the English three Lions believes it was hard work, grace and passion that earned him the call up to the Eagles camp.

“First I could not believe playing at the World Cup in Korea/Japan 2002 which I almost missed due to logistic issues, but when the final list was released I saw my name and I was very happy, infact nothing like playing at the senior FIFA World Cup in your career as a Soccer player” Akwuegbu told totorinews.com in an exclusive interview on phone from London.


"Seeing myself playing on the same pitch with Soccer greats like David Beckham and Sol Campbell of England in the World Cup was marvelous” Akwuegbu added


Recall that the Austrian Bomber as he is fondly called by Soccer pundits due to his free scoring abilities was born in Jos Nigeria 50yrs ago, had a shot stint with RC lens of France in the 1991-1992 season.


He played for various Austrian Clubs including AK Graz were he scored 38 goals in all competitions in 120 appearances for the club between 1998/2004. What an achievement.
